between Erap and Gloria is this rice crisis shaping upto be. It seems the opposition has gotten wind of information that some powers that be have benefitted from both rice smuggling and kickbacks from rice imports. Estrada alleges that NFA insiders have provided him information and documents proving that rice imported by the NFA from 2001-2007 (the so far inclusive years of the Arroyo Administration) has led to as much as 10B Pesos in kickbacks for some people.
Coyly, Estrada says he will reveal all in due time. He just has to make sure they have proof first. What Estrada says dovetails with loose talk going on right now—-that People in Power have been making money off the padded rice prices in the importation of rice. supposedly, if you import from certain countries who also have corrupt regimes, one can make as much as 50 pesos/kilo of imported rice. The amount varies whoever you talk to. Nevertheless—-no one has come forward to categorically prove these claims.
I can see it now—-the opposition again making a case to rile the people by saying that people in power are making money off the misery of the rest of us. The timing is suspicious, as there is talk of another threat to the administration with the resumption of classes in June, and the lapse of the Arroyo “annual” Impeachment ban by October. These are the 2months to watch for, the 2 months of the year where those plotting to oust HER, will make their final stand.
However, people Ive been in conversations with have conceded, time is of the essence since the advent of the presidential campaign by january 1, 2009 may render certain important forces not wanting any change that could boost the VP’s chances of winning the elections.
If you ask me—-HE will run for President…and SHE will back him up. that’s a wild guess.
Or, there’s another variation of the Impeach Me Scenario—-she allows herself to get impeached or ousted—-making him a shoo in for the presidency in 2010—-thereby ensuring a friendly force in place, post 2010.

Yet another variation insinuates—-a post 2010 scenario which keeps HER in power still through charter change this year (dont you find it suspicious that senators all of the sudden supported a consituent assmebly to support a federated philippines?) which ensures—-everyone gets to be President!
